The Norma Eco Speed-22 is 22LR, weight is 24 grains, its lead free calling it a Zinc Copper Layer bullet. Norma is a Swedish company, however these bullets are made in Germany. These are similar to a round nose however they are flat at the tip instead, just at the very tip though. The muzzle velocity is 1706fps producing 155ft/lbs of energy. At 109 yards (100 meters) these are still flying at 1027fps and have 56ft/lbs of energy which is a significant reduction of energy making these more of a closer range bullet.
The first thing I noticed about these bullets was the size. The size of the brass casings are off, and a little smaller than normal. This resulted in not filling my magazine completely to the bottom. They also came pre-lubed which is how I believe they are getting this hyper velocity as they call it. So yes while the muzzle velocity might be good the bullet slows down significantly as it travels towards the target. I also find it funny and a little concerning that they are advertising this bullet as an eco friendly bullet however if you read the back you have the warning: Cancer and Reproductive Harm and a link to the government website for more information. I personally don’t know of anything that is eco friendly that causes cancer. Do you? No, me either. I would say Eco friendly my buttocks, that is a false statement and the bullet before I shot it has pluses and minuses going for it.
While testing this bullet it jammed my gun so many times that it was unreal. Every 2nd or 3rd bullet jammed it. Mostly stove piped it. It was extremely frustrating to shoot, and I had 20 flyers out of 50 bullets. That gives the precision build of the bullets a score of 60% meaning every 3rd bullet you shoot is going to be a flyer. The grouping on this bullet was horrible, my main grouping including the flyers was: 3” wide by 2 1/8” high. I did not measure it without the flyers since there were so many and the grouping of non flyers was so small.
I honestly cannot recommend using this bullet to anyone. At least not from a semi-automatic pistol. Maybe this bullet could work better in a revolver or a rifle. That is a possibility, but unless I go back and test it that way it is only speculation. The other thing I noticed is while Norma puts this bullet on their main website if you hit the Buy Now button and go to the store site it is one of the few bullets they don’t sell. Hhhhmmmmm. Makes you think.
